BYOK means the app is the workspace, not the model reseller.
In a bundled AI product, the app chooses the model access, pricing structure, rate limits, and provider relationship. In a BYOK system, the user connects provider credentials they control and uses the app as the workflow layer around those models.
Bring your own keys
You connect the AI provider accounts you already use or want to use. The app provides the interface, organization, review workflow, and project context around those providers.

Why use BYOK?
BYOK is useful when provider control matters.
A bring-your-own-key model is not for every user. It is strongest for people who already use AI providers directly, care about model choice, or want a serious workspace around their own provider accounts.
Control model selection
Use different providers and models for different jobs. A fast model may be enough for drafting, while a stronger model may be better for verification or technical review.
Keep provider billing direct
BYOK lets the provider account remain yours. The workspace does not need to hide model costs inside bundled usage tiers.

What BYOK does not solve by itself
Provider keys are only one part of serious AI work.
